CBA held its 2011 Chinese New Year's Gala

On January 8, 2011, CBA hosted another hugely successful Annual Chinese New Year Gala at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, Maryland. As one of the most prestigious celebratory events among Chinese Americans in the Greater DC area, as well as a “must-attend” networking event for people seeking connections with the key players in the biopharmaceutical industries, this year’s gala welcomed near 300 guests including CEOs of local and international biopharmaceutical companies, scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and representatives from the Chinese and US government. Many influential guests including Honorable Minister Zigang Yang from the Chinese Embassy, Montgomery County Executive Dr. Isiah Leggett, and the Gala co-host, BIO EVP Mr. Sean Darragh, have spoken at the Gala.

CBA Co-hosted a Reception for Top Executives from 17 Large Chinese Pharmaceutical Companies
On November 17th, 2010, Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association co-hosted a reception in Washington DC with Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). The reception was for a group of 30 CEOs and top executives from some of the largest pharmaceutical companies in China. CBA President-Elect Dr. Zhifeng Long gave a welcome remark at the reception. Publish Your Views on Future China BioPharma Industry at Trends in Bio/pharmaceutical Industry (TBI)

Trends in Bio/Pharmaceutical Industry (TBI) is a scientific journal focused on the latest discoveries, innovations, development and trends in the various fields of life sciences. It is the official journal of the Alliance of Chinese-American Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Associations (ALL-CABPA), an alliance of 5 nonprofit organizations including CBA.

As China enters its 12th Five Year Plan, the China biotech and pharmaceutical industry is also opening a new chapter. TBI will dedicate a special issue to this topic, and is calling for articles. If you would like to share your experience, outlook and recommendations on how to make our industry better and grows even faster, write an essay about it and have TBI publish your essay. The 15th CBA Annual Conference successfully held in Maryland

(Potomac, Maryland, June 14, 2010) - The Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association-USA (CBA) successfully held its 15th Annual Conference on June 12 -13 at USM Shady Grove Center, Rockville, Maryland.

With the theme of Biopharmaceutical Medicines: Development and Commercialization without Borders, the two-day conference drew near 500 global attendees including research scientists, entrepreneurs, representatives from government agencies, and investors.

More than 30 academia and industry leaders spoke at the conference. Five delegations from China's leading biotech parks sponsored and presented at the conference, including presentations from Mr. Guang-Yuan Liu, Mister of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the USA, and Mr. John P. McDonough, Secretary of the State of Maryland, attended the conference and delivered opening remarks.

Dr. Sujuan Ba, president of CBA and Chairperson of the Conference, presented the 2010 CBA Brilliant Achievement Award to Dr. Eric Green, director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health, and Mr. Gabriel Leung, president of Pharmaceuticals Business, OSI Pharmaceuticals.

The CBA Brilliant Achievement Award was established in 2003 to honor outstanding individuals who have made seminal contributions to science, technology, or business development in the biopharmaceutical fields; whose vision has moved medicine in new directions; and, who has been actively involved in building collaborative efforts internationally to advance medical fields.

The Award also aims to promote public awareness of the importance of collaborations between basic and applied researchers, between academia and industry, and between researchers and entrepreneurs.

Dr. Ba also presented the 2010 CBA Outstanding Public Serviced Award to former CBA President (2004-2005) Dajun Yang, MD, PhD, President and CEO of Ascentage Pharma Group Corp., in reorganization of his long-lasting devotion to the growth of the CBA and his relentless efforts to help fulfill CBA's mission of facilitating collaboration between biopharmaceutical professionals and promoting global business collaboration in biopharmaceutical fields.

At the end of the conference, Dr. Longzhi Feng was elected CBA's new president-elect (2010-2011). According to CBA's bylaw, Dr. Sujuan Ba automatically became CBA's president and Dr. Yifan Zhai become CBA's immediate-past president. He encourages every one of the CBA members to have a sense of ownership between the whole organization is "one body."
